Soft Ricotta and Requesón Recall Expands in June 2026 Listeria Outbreak

Shoppers should check soft ricotta and requesón products now: the June 9, 2026 update in the CDC and FDA Listeria investigation expanded to include Clover Hill Dairy soft ricotta/requesón cheese and related Nelson & Isa Lacteos requesón products. Do not eat any recalled cheese. Discard it or return it to the store.
The CDC says this outbreak has caused 9 illnesses across 3 states, with 8 hospitalizations and 1 death reported. The FDA says the affected cheese was distributed in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Some product may also have been repackaged at retail, so the label or coding on a deli container may not look exactly like the original packaging.
That means this is not just a packaged-cheese check. Look in the refrigerator, freezer, and any deli-counter containers or repackaged tubs you brought home. If you bought soft ricotta or requesón recently, compare the brand name, product name, and any coding on the label with the official recall notice. If it matches, do not taste it or use it in a recipe.
What to do if you find it
Throw the cheese away or return it to the store. If it was stored with other food, clean the shelf, drawer, container, or cooler bag it touched. Wash hands, cutting boards, utensils, and any surfaces that may have come into contact with the cheese. If the recalled product was in the freezer, do not assume freezing makes it safe.
For higher-risk groups, including pregnant people, older adults, newborns, and people with weakened immune systems, watch for Listeria symptoms after possible exposure and contact a health care provider if you are concerned. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea, but official medical advice should guide any next step.
If you are not sure whether a soft cheese in your home is part of this recall, set it aside and compare it carefully before serving it to anyone. When in doubt, keep it out.
