FDA Warns Consumers Not to Eat Recalled Shellfish From Hammersley Inlet, Washington

Food Recall

The FDA is warning consumers not to eat shellfish from Gomez Shellfish, LLC (WA-1724-SS) harvested from Hammersley Inlet, Washington, between March 22 and April 9, 2026. The shellfish may be contaminated with norovirus. If you have it at home or in a business, do not eat, serve, or sell it.

Throw the product away or follow instructions from the retailer or distributor. This recall is especially important for shoppers in California, Oregon, Texas, and Washington, where the shellfish was distributed, but FDA says there may be wider distribution as well.

Norovirus can cause sudden nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and sometimes fever or body aches. If anyone has already eaten the shellfish and feels sick, seek medical advice, especially if symptoms are severe or lasting. Norovirus spreads easily, so wash hands well and clean any surfaces or containers that may have touched the product.

If you buy shellfish for your family, check recent purchases before serving them. When in doubt, the safest move is to discard uncertain shellfish from this harvest window rather than take a chance.
